Help with Deferrals/Withdrawal
Information and resources for students that are considering deferral of their course.
What is Deferral?
A ‘Deferral’ is when you keep your place on your programme but postpone it for one academic year. If you do not register in the following academic year, you will forfeit that place.
What is Withdrawal?
A ‘Withdrawal’ is when you decide to leave your programme are no longer a registered student. You cannot avail of the services or use the facilities.
Making the Decision
Students do not have to make this decision alone. TU Dublin Students’ Union (SU) strongly advise you to get advice before you decide so that students are well informed on the options and the implications. Your ‘Year Tutor’ or ‘Course Coordinator’ will be able to advise you – for contact details see Academic Staff Contacts. The Careers Service has lots of useful information and you can contact them for further guidance.
Other services that are useful to contact:
Complete a Withdrawal Form online for your Campus.
- Withdrawal Form for Blanchardstown Campus
- Withdrawal Form for City Campus
- Withdrawal Form for Tallaght Campus
If you are receiving a SUSI grant it’s very important that you let them know that you are withdrawing from the programme. See information for grant applicants.
City Campus students have to complete the Deferral Form - City Campus and get it signed by your Head of School.
Students in Blanchardstown and Tallaght should contact Student Information Desk / Student Services (link not working)
Watch out for Fee Deadlines
For fee purposes the date of withdrawal will be considered the date by which the completed form is submitted online and this means that you are liable for the fees up until the date on which Form is sent, not when you make the decision to leave.
For Full-Time Students
- Students who withdraw before 31st October will have no fees due. However, the date of withdrawal may impact the level of a SUSI grant in the future.
- Students who withdraw between 1st November and 31st January are liable for 50% of the Student Contribution fee and 50% of the Tuition Fee, if applicable.
- Students who withdraw after 31st January are liable for 100% Student Contribution fee and 100% Tuition fee if applicable.
For Part-Time Students.
- Students who withdraw before 31st October are liable for Programme Acceptance Fee.
- Students who withdraw between 1st November and 31st January are liable for 50% programme fee.
- Students who withdraw after 31st January are liable for 100% programme fee.
